Air Gesture S4 Smartphones made up nearly 90% of handsets sold during the quarter-priceangels.com
Smartphones made up nearly 90% of handsets sold during the quarter, Sharma said; 64% of owners there now have Air Gesture S4 smartphones, but that is concentrated among 40% of households - "leaving plenty of growth in the marketplace."Separately, IDC's figures showed that the world average selling price (ASP) of a smartphone dropped by 12.5% year-on-year in the third quarter to $317 - indicative of more phones being sold at lower prices.
The average is pulled down by the cheaper handsets in China. “Sales of feature phones continued to decline and the decrease was more pronounced in markets where the ASP for feature phones was much closer to the ASP of affordable smartphones,” said Anshul Gupta, principal research analyst at Gartner. “In markets such as China and Latin America, demand for feature phones fell significantly as users rushed to replace their old models with smartphones.”
My top 10 smartphones of the summer were posted in August and since then we have seen some major new releases. As we approach the holiday buying season, there are some fantastic smartphone options to consider. While I ranked these phones from one to ten, I can honestly state that I could own any of them and be satisfied. It was tough to rank them and I am sure we all may have some slight differences in the order they appear.DF4G45d
We shouldn't see any new major smartphone announcements until Mobile World Congress in February. The only thing I think we might see is further carrier announcements of existing smartphones, such as the Moto X Moto Maker custom service coming to other carriers. There are several smartphone manufacturers that run Android on their devices. Of these vendors, Samsung gained the most market share. The Galaxy S4-maker ruled 39 percent of all Android smartphone shipments in the third quarter. The majority of the other vendors saw market share within the single digits or less.
Overall smartphone shipments were up 39.9 percent year-over-year in the third quarter. According to IDC, average smartphone selling prices have decreased as of late as demand for buy a cheap cell phone grows. The average price is now at $317, which is 12.5 percent lower than last year. One exception to the lower price is for large-screened smartphones, or phablets. The average phablet price is currently hovering around $443; however, this is still 22.8 percent lower than last year's average phablet price of $573.
Bloomberg reports that Samsung is working on a Galaxy smartphone that would sport three-sided display that would wrap around the edges of the smartphone. Further, the report quotes two people familiar with the Samsung plans and notes that each side of the display would operate separately and that the alleged wraparound display would work with company's Youm flexible display technology, first used for the curved display on the Galaxy Round.
As per the report, the Samsung's smartphone with wraparound display could be a device in the Galaxy S or Galaxy Note phablet series, or in a new smartphone lineup entirely. The report does not reveal an exact time frame for the release of the alleged Samsung Galaxy phone with wraparound display, but expects the alleged device to be out by the second half of 2014.
Unfortunately, the report did not shed any light on the innards of the alleged Galaxy Smartphone MTK6589 with the wraparound display. The alleged Galaxy smartphone with a new display type might be an attempt to gauge consumers' reaction for phones with new form factors, though Samsung's first attempt with new display type, the Galaxy Round has been limited to selective markets only, and not been too popular.
