The GT-I9300 update to Android 4.2.2 is available for the Samsung Galaxy S3 right now with a sprinkling of extra ‘beans.’If you have the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 you’re in luck as you can get an update to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 with a custom ROM by the name of CM10.1.

The ROM is just for the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 which runs on the Exynos quad core. The team over at CyanogenMod are behind CM10.1 and this will provide owners of the international version of the handset with advanced Google Now, a new camera app, widgets for the lock screen, quick settings and much more.

The ROM comes with extras on top of Jelly Bean features and these include support for OpenVPN, lock screen gestures, a theme manager, short cuts for the cheap iphone 4 cases lock screen, DSP equaliser and customised MMS, plus much more. You do have to bear in mind that the ROM is in 21sQW1F2 nightly build stages and so you could find glitches. These however should be ironed out eventually.

Many people do like to customise their device, but as always you should proceed with care when you are installing any custom ROM.

If you wish to install it then you should make a backup of your Samsung Galaxy S3 first. Make sure that there is around 80% battery left and that you have a handset that has been rooted and which has ClockworkMod recovery on it. You should also have the required USB drivers for your device installed on your computer and debugging mode should be enabled. If you want to check this you can find it in Settings> Developer options> USB debugging.

Of course you will need CM10.1 ROM along with the Google Apps APK too. This means that you can reinstall your native apps back onto the Samsung Galaxy GT-I9300 at the end. All you need to do is follow the instructions that are given on the official CyanogenMod website.
